I wrote and art directed a webcomic called F*****g internet. My illustrator on this project was Omar Osegueda. A fantastic artist with a long history of haunting, comic-style art, he was the perfect fit for what the story needed by the time the ending hit. I had spent years working with him before and knew that we worked well as a team. This project was posted weekly for 1 year with no breaks.

Mental health is important, critically ignored, and under-discussed. This project came about in light of the volume of unwelcome messages I received online early during my time as an Art Model. I did not expect the volume of feedback I received from others with their own stories. Overall it was well received. The following are excerpts from the process book that was made.

My role was guiding the artist in staying true to the story and timeline set while handling social media interaction. Everything was written a year in advance.
Main communication was maintained via google doc and Discord. I would approve thumbnails in advance for adjustments according to the weather, mood, and content of that chapter. I would then approve the final before posting. 3 months prior to start was spent working through character designs, evolutions, and tones. I was to keep illustrations accountable to story, timelines, and making sure trigger warnings were applied if needed. We would work ahead upwards of 2-5 posts at times to ensure he could take vacations.

All posting dates were planned in advance to make sure it would start and end on her birthday. The comic itself was written to appear as though it was in real time. It was important to me to trick the audience into a false sense of security. No one knew aside from my illustrator that it was going to end. Once started we could not miss a deadline or risk compromising the impact of the ending.
You would think this to be a much more stressful process. Being on time every week, making sure the next approval is happening by day after previous post etc. However we found it really wasn't. Because of the work done in advance it was very easy to make changes since everything was so well laid out before hand.
There was still room for individual styles and taste, but everything was always on track. What few problems occurred were easily fixed in the first few posts. I give credit to my illustrator for most of how smoothly that went. I also took special care to make sure I was doing things in such a way that was compatible for his workflow.

The comic was shared by many as well as having a small weekly following throughout. We made a point of making it as widely available as possible so we posted on 4 different platforms: Webtoons, Tapas, Instagram, and Reddit. All were posted under the user @Curious_Direction for it to appear as her profile and her own posts.
